Biofuels Act of 2006 (Republic Act 9367) blending mandates

All gasoline sold must contain 10% bioethanol and all diesel a coconut methyl ester blend that is stepping up from B3 toward B5.

Timeline

  1. 2007

    B1 biodiesel blend takes effect under the Biofuels Act.

  2. 2009

    E10 gasoline and B2 diesel blends take effect.

  3. 2024

    Biodiesel blend raised to B3.

  4. 2026

    Step-up toward B5 subject to Department of Energy circulars.

Requirements

  • Oil companies must blend bioethanol into every litre of gasoline placed on the market.
  • Diesel must carry the prescribed coconut methyl ester share set by the National Biofuels Board.
  • Locally produced bioethanol has first call on the mandated volume.
